Fanny Stefanelli started playing the violin, the piano and the double bass at the age of 5, but as she deeply admired her older sister who played the violin, it soon appeared obvious to her that she was bound to follow in her footsteps.
She told her parents about her strong desire to be registered with the Home School (CNED) so as to dedicate herself to intensive violin training and become the professional violin player she was meant to be.
At 11 she was a finalist of the Concours international des Jeunes interprètes of Waterloo. After an eye-opening masterclass with Ivry GITLIS, she entered the Conservatoire de Rayonnement Régional de Boulogne-Billancourt and graduated at 16 with a First Prize along with the congratulations of the jury. Afterwards, she improved herself by studying with Agnès REVERDY and Annick ROUSSIN.
In September 2009 Fanny was admitted to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, in the class of Olivier CHARLIER, and she followed masterclasses with Roland DAUGAREIL, Régis PASQUIER and the Quatuor EBENE.
Her Spanish roots and her strong attraction to Latino music and World Music have always made her feel like breaking away from traditional codes to create her own sound.
In fact, she performed for 10 years in the SpiriTango Quartet, who were the first tango musicians to enter the Chamber Music class of Ami FLAMMER and Jean-Noël CROCQ at the Conservatoire de Paris.
Her string quartet journey with the SpiritTango Quartet, who released three albums, allowed her to perform at the greatest music festivals such as the Roque d'Anthéron, Radio France in Montpellier, at renowned concert venues such as Opéra de Metz, Opéra de Lille, Salle Poirel in Nancy, Salle Cortot, Sunset Sunside, and across Belgium, Switzerland, Morocco, China and Russia. Their last album "TrANsGressiOns" was named Editor’s Choice in Classica magazine.
Fanny collaborated with renowned chamber musicians such as Richard GALLIANO, Pierre GENISSON, Emmanuel ROSSFELDER, Pascal MORAGUES, Vassilena SERAFIMOVA and Tomas GUBITSCH.
As she can’t help adding her personal touch to classics and having developed an obsession with sound aesthetic along with a deep love for gourmet restaurants, she likes to see herself as a culinary chef creating textures and colours.
Today her unusual career path has led her to release her debut solo album “ESPRIT FOLK” with the pianist and composer Matthieu STEFANELLI on the Indesens-Calliope label – an album for acoustic violin and electric violin with looper and effects pedals.
When she performed at the Festival des Nancyphonies, she told the French newspaper L’Est Républicain: “Music is raw energy, that’s what music really is ; from suffering to soaring, playing music means experiencing that raw energy deep inside!”
